Stargazing A-Frame

A log-sided A-frame on a private wooded acre, deep in lodgepole pine at 8,957 feet.

The house

The house is log-sided, orange-brown with teal-green trim, and it stands three stories up in tight lodgepole pine on a private wooded acre. The gable end is a full-height triangle of glass, so the great room looks straight into the trees; inside, the walls and the vaulted ceiling are knotty-pine tongue and groove with the cross beams left exposed. A black wood stove sits on the hearth there, and there is a second living room with a stone-faced fireplace.

It is a renovated mountain cabin, not a minimalist one: honey-toned wood cabinetry and a breakfast bar in the kitchen, a long wood dining table by the deck door, plaid quilts on the beds. Then the bathrooms are properly modern — patterned tile, a freestanding soaking tub, a double vanity under two round mirrors. Three bedrooms sleep ten: two kings, and a room with full-size bunks and a desk at the window.

Outside, a hot tub sits on a stone-and-gravel pad beside the house and the elevated deck holds a table under a cream umbrella. There is a dedicated work area with a monitor and open shelving, a washer and dryer in the house, and an EV charger on site, which is why this one suits long stays as much as weekends. It sits at 8,957 feet, an elevation confirmed against USGS survey data.
